In addition to shopping and getting quotes from local vendors, the three-day show features displays and presentations by industry professionals. Main stage guests include Randy Spracklin of HGTV Canada’s Rock Solid Builds, Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault, Cityline’s resident designer and DIY expert and Adam Weir, an HGTV veteran and, literally, a construction magician.

“This is Randy Spracklin’s first time in Edmonton,” says show manager Kristy Cairns. “We are looking forward to hearing all about his TV show, his experience and getting some really great advice.”

Perrault is a renovation show favorite, bringing a wealth of knowledge on how to create beautiful spaces on a budget.

“She’s extremely relatable and resonates well with homeowners. She knows how to mix high-low products to keep home improvement projects on trend but on budget,” Cairns says.

New to the 2023 show is Reel Rooms, a re-creation of stylized rooms that have garnered thousands of likes and shares on the pages of local social media VIPs.

“We’ve got talented influencers in the city including Ghalia Eltassi from @urban.homeology, Bree Tetz from @mylittleblackandwhitehouse and Kellie Berard of @breakfastatkellies. We know homeowners are on social media looking at trends and having these spaces on the show floor means homeowners can see how the furniture, paint and fixtures look and play in person,” Cairns says.

Another exciting new addition to the Renovation show is the DIY Training Centre, a skills academy setting up shop in Edmonton, where do-it-yourself skills are taught by trade professionals in a classroom setting.

Founded by Colin Herring and Jackie White, the DIY Training Center offers courses such as how to use power tools, drywall patches, the basics of plumbing and much more. The goal is to put practical industry know-how into the hands of homeowners themselves.

Renovation show visitors will see hands-on demonstrations of things they might learn by enrolling in a program.

“It will be a teaser as to what people can experience in our classes,” says White. “There are a million great (DIY) videos out there, but what we have found is that when people actually have tools in their hands, they gain more confidence.”

With accent walls at the height of popularity in home design, Herring says they hope to show people how to create feature walls for themselves with instructions on what materials and tools are required to achieve the look.

“We can also show a bit of tile work or how to hook up a faucet. The other thing people really want to know is what items they should have in a basic homeowner’s toolbox,” he says.

Secrets to Style will showcase chic boutique decor taken from Edmonton’s commercial design scene that should inspire homeowners to be bold in their renovation endeavors.

“Inspiration can come from anything. Art, music, pop culture — and in this case, we’re recreating a fun and unique barber shop in Edmonton, Parlor Barba Co., which plays into the speakeasy side of cozy and cool design,” says Cairns.

Back by popular demand is the DYP Refillery with an array of sustainable, refillable and compostable home goods and decor and the Renovation Show lounge, styled by Jennifer Woch of House of J who has designed Edmonton’s most beloved restaurant.

With endless opportunities to explore innovative ideas, visitors can stop by The Help Desk to organize their day at the show.

“The Help Desk sponsored by the Better Business Bureau is where folks can go if they’re looking specifically for a closet specialist or a contractor that specializes in areas such as kitchens, baths, window upgrades. They’ll be able to find where these exhibitors are,” Cairns says.
