Where the Beautiful Antique Cherub Statue landed

Oh that chunky cherub statue I shared last week… it is beyond darling. And if you liked it by itself on the table and love cherub statues- get ready to be even more in love with it.

Is that even possible? Yes, I do believe so.

Antique Cherub

I mean, first up- talk about a styling that got people talking. There was So much love for this post about the vintage cherub statue in the house and so many who hated it feeling it was too large for the table. There were even a few arguments in the comments on Facebook about it. (which is crazy) My daughter moderates my FB groups and page and she could tell a few stories here- it can get wild over there! I must admit- I loved it on the table -the size was what I loved and that table is an entry table not one usually set for dining so it worked perfectly. But all that aside- I mainly just wanted to say that if someone doesn’t like the way something is styled – that is okay. The thing to remember about your home and how you decorate it is that it is Your home and you decorate it to make You happy- not the internet. My home is the same- I just happen to share it with a whole lot of people on the internet because of my job. haha. If you love something- just enjoy it- I am always on the team that believes if you like it- it is exactly perfect.

Not so much a million dollar question But… Did You guess where THE PERFECT SPOT for this statue was and where it landed?

Sharing a few quick iPhone snaps today- stay tuned for the finished photos.

Antique Cherub Fountain

Ahhhh so spoiler alert- that lovely statue piece was part of a huge fountain!!

Honestly, this is probably one of the top vintage treasures I have scored in awhile. This chunky pair of cherubs are actually the top layer in a vintage tiered fountain. Not just one set of cherubs here- there are 2 statue pieces with cherubs. It is SO BEYOND BEAUTIFUL. I honestly cannot believe I found this fountain and how perfect it is for our garden and my style.

Antique Cherub Fountain Story

I found this on marketplace- surprise surprise. There was 1 photo and it was not assembled- just in parts together so you couldn’t see the whole picture. I have one of those ways of looking at things and ‘seeing’ what they could look like (one of the reasons I bought our basket case of a house) so I don’t necessarily get scrambled if I can’t see the whole finished look in the photo. I have seen big old cherub fountains before at wineries or in Europe.etc. and knew of this piece could be even half as amazing as I thought it could be – that it would be incredible. So I messaged the seller to ask for details- age, condition, issues, etc. They saw the message but did not reply. So, I waited and heard nothing and messaged one more time and crickets again. So I figured it was already sold and they just forgot to take the listing down. It would be one that got away.

A couple of months later- I saw the same listing pop up in my feed again. It said it was posted 16 weeks ago and again, I figured they just didn’t take the listing down… but decided to message one.more.time just in case. This time, the seller got right back to me and said and it was available We chatted and set up a time to go look at it.

When we got there- my first thought was how much bigger the fountain was in person- big chunky concrete statues and big old concrete bowls. And Big Old Instant LOVE.

There were two pedestals, 2 cherub sections and 2 bowls- about 8′ total in height when all together. The seller said he had gotten the fountain from his friends parents who were moving and they had it for over 40 years. He didn’t know if they bought it new at that time or it was already older. Then he had it sitting in his yard unassembled for years- so we are estimating that it is at least 45-50 years old- possibly older. It took 2 trips over to be able to transport all the pieces in the truck- they didn’t all fit at one time.

I was instantly in love with it (of course!) The cherubs are absolutely beautiful. And with the chippy old patina where the water has worn it away over the years, the lichen and moss and just really how incredible all the details are.

All the Details

Once home, it took a bit of strategizing getting it out of the truck bed- those big tree stumps from the trees that came down in the winter storms came in quite handy but it also involved a lot of rolling, lifting, balancing, a garden cart, lots of tinkering and leveling.

Each piece of the fountain is HEAVY. The bowls were okay being rolled and then propped and lifted up in place with 2 strong men. But when it came to both guys on two ladders and lifting those top pieces that weigh about 300-400 lbs each overhead- that was not a good plan. So they came up with a system involving 2×4’s & eventually got it set up.

I will share the whole behind the scenes of putting it together in another post- needless to say it was a comedy routine as most of what we do over here is but eventually, we got everything put together (twice) and plugged it in and Voila. PURE MAGIC.

Beyond Beautiful

Not much else to say about it other than this fountain is beyond beautiful. I am excited to get the plants and walkable paths in place- you can see some of the behind the scenes with pots to be planted and fences that had to move. Currently we have parked a couple of chairs where we sit and enjoy the fountain music but we are planning on creating a more formal spot to sit to enjoy it soon.

What do you think of this antique fountain? Would you have brought it home?

If you are looking for a vintage/antique fountain or statuary also, I’m thinking of putting together a post about what to consider when looking for them along with some tips on how to find them soon. Would that be helpful?

Happy Monday all.
